Willis Elton Daniel, 84, of Roanoke Rapids died Tuesday, May 26, 2009.

Mr. Daniel, a native of Halifax County, was the son of the late Paul Elton and Lillian Warren Daniel. He was a Veteran of the United States Army having served his country during WWII. Mr. Daniel was retired from J.P. Stevens Company.

He was a member of the VFW and the DAV.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Lee Daniel; his daughter, Dean Daniel of Greensboro; two sons, Elton Daniel and his wife, Ethel, of Kailua Hawaii and Rob Daniel of Raleigh; five grandchildren; David, Edward and Warren Daniel, Emily Borders and Callie Daniel; and five great-grandchildren.

Graveside services with military funeral honors will be held Thursday, May 28 at 1 p.m. at Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids. Rev. Sandra Mull will officiate. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7:00-8:30 p.m. at Askew Funeral and Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids.

The flag in front of the funeral home flies at half-staff in honor of Mr. Daniel’s service to his country.
